The DinTaiFung steamed dumplings gradually earned their reputation, but Yang never asked his customers to help promote his business. Yet, by word of mouth, customers gradually came flocking in. Eventually, many celebrities became DinTaiFung's long-term customers.
Due to his kind personality, Yang became good friends with many celebrities. Among them, there were famous painters who gave their paintings to Yang as gifts and gourmets who wrote positive articles in newspapers after tasting DinTaiFung's food. The steamed dumplings became so popular that Yang soon stopped his oil business and dedicated his entire time to the restaurant business.
The DinTaiFung Oil Shop had thoroughly transformed into a popular restaurant selling a delicacy. The one time oil deliverer had become king of the well-known steamed dumplings.
With connections already established during his time at HengTaiFeng Oils and a well-established commercial reputation, Yang's DinTaiFung Oils took off quickly which helped the couple to buy their own shop shortly there after. They then relocated their oil shop to the current location of the DinTaiFung restaurant on Xinyi Road.
Around 1970, salad oil was introduced and, due the convenience of its canned packaging, many consumers switched to salad oil in favour of traditional peanut oil. This new trend posed new challenges to "DinTaiFung" Oils' future survival.
With a decreasing sales volume and the economic pressure of feeding five children, the couple was facing a financial situation. Taking the suggestion from Mr. Tang, owner of the Fuxing Garden restaurant, Yang dedicated half of the oil shop to making steamed dumplings and noodles. This was the start of DingTaiFeng's business in selling steamed dumplings.
